Avandia Settlements

Settlements reached in hundreds of Avandia lawsuits, settlement amounts confidential

Avandia lawsuit settlements have been reached in hundreds of cases.  Glaxo has agreed to pay millions,  but the specific settlement amounts are confidential.

It has been reported that Glaxo has settled nearly 700 of the lawsuits filed by people harmed by Avandia. While settlement amounts remain confidential, the cases filed by three of the lawyers representing victims of the drug are reported to have resulted in Avandia lawsuit settlements totalling approximately $60 million.

Most of the settled cases are for people who had heart attacks after taking the diabetes drug. Other injuries include stroke and congestive heart failure. Many are wrongful death cases.

Calls for an Avandia recall have been renewed since a Senate report critical of the drug and Glaxo’s conduct was released in February.  An FDA advisory panel will meet in July to consider the safety and fate of diabetes treatment. Many believe the meeting will result in a long-overdue Avandia recall.
