Individual Avandia lawsuits filed across the U.S. have been consolidated into Multi-District Litigation in the U.S. federal trial court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to a $750 million settlement with the Department of Justice (DoJ) relating to the investigation of claims that the drug company knowingly sold bad drugs and contaminated baby ointment, the New York Times has reported.

In May 2007, Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Dr. Steven Nissen published an Avandia study in the New England Journal of Medicine that would mark a turning point for the diabetes drug Avandia.
