Avandia Settlement Amounts – 2010 Avandia Lawsuit

The attorneys at AvandiaRecallNews.com no longer are accepting new Avandia cases.

Avandia settlements in 2010 have been won on thousands of legal claims against GSK linking the popular prescription medicine to an increased risk of the following Avandia side effects:

  • heart attack
  • stroke
  • congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • cardiovascular death

Diabetes patients with the highest risk of developing these serious, potentially life-threatening Avandia side effects include diabetics with a history of such cardiovascular events, heart disease, blood clots, high blood pressure or smoking.

In May 2010, an Avandia settlement totaling $60 million was reached to resolve about 700 Avandia lawsuits.  The settlement was reached just weeks before the first state court Avandia trial was set to begin in Philadelphia, PA.

In July 2010, while FDA drug safety advisors met to consider an Avandia recall, GSK agreed to pay $460 million to settle an additional 10,000 cases.  Individual Avandia settlement amounts vary depending on the specific facts of each case. The FDA advisory committee recommended revisions to the drug’s warning label and new restrictions on the use of the diabetes drug, but fell short of recommending an Avandia recall.

Laws called statutes of limitations set legal time limits for filing Avandia lawsuit claims and all other legal actions. Avandia lawsuit statute of limitations vary from state to state.
